WHAT IS JIGSAW TOOL?
A jigsaw is a sharp machine use for cutting of different materials like wood or metal. It is used for cutting irregular curves. Mostly saws can only cut the straight line, but a jigsaw is a tool used for cutting complicated shapes objects. Albert Kaufmann invented the jigsaw in 1946. He used the blade and replaced it with the needle of his wife’s sewing machine. Scintilla named that machine Lesto jigsaw. Bosch, a well-known name, then acquired it in 1954. The jigsaw was made in the 19th century. With time, modification of this machine has been done. Nowadays, electrical saws are available that are called scroll saws. Here I am going to provide you with a complete guide about what is a jigsaw and how to use a jigsaw.
WHAT ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF JIGSAW BLADES?
There are different types of best jigsaw blades used in the jigsaw tool. The choice of blades depends upon the material that must be cut, the required finish product, and the speed of the machine. You can also change the jigsaw blade by easy removal installation which is present in different models.
HIGH CARBON STEEL (HCS)
This type of blade is flexible. The advantage of this blade is that they are cheap as compared to other ones, but the disadvantage is, they become dull early.
HIGH-SPEED STEEL (HSS)
As the name indicates, we can use this blade in the high-speed tool, so they are harder and more durable, but there is no flexibility in this blade-like in case of high carbon steel. This blade is heat liable.
This blade is a modification of other blades. It includes the fusion of the upper two blades. It is made up of carbon steel and flexible with the advantage of high speed.
TEETH PER INCH (TPI)
It is a type of blade having teeth. Several teeth present in the range of 6-20. Blade with a higher number of teeth cut slower than the low number one but produce a smooth finish product.
REVERSE TOOTH BLADE
Reverse tooth blade is a type of specialist blade. This type of blade is called a reverse tooth blade because the tooth of blades presents on the downside while the tooth usually presents on the upward side for other kinds of blades. This reverse placement increases the effectivity of the blade.
PLUNGE CUT BLADES
These blades have a sharp tip on their end because the purpose of this type of blade is piercing in soft objects.
We use scrolling types of blades for tight curves or delicate surfaces. This type of blade is narrower than others.
FLUSH CUTTING BLADES
Another type of specialist blade is flush cutting blades. It can cut vertical surfaces because of its extended shape structure.
HOW TO USE A JIGSAW?
The most important thing in the use of the jigsaw tool is the choice of blade. The first and the most initial step is an appropriate selection of the right blade according to the desired finish product. Choose the blade as per the information given above for the specific type of materials, speed, and purpose. Keep these things in mind whether you are using a cordless jigsaw or corded jigsaw. These are extremely important points in buying a good jigsaw.
1. GRIP OF THE JIGSAW
You should make a proper grip of a jigsaw. Jigsaw with good grip helps you in long term projects.
2. SAFETY while using Jigsaw
Dust is produced by cutting of material. You should cover your mouth with a face mask. Protection is necessary because cut material could kickback.
3. FIX THE MATERIAL TO THE SURFACE
Fix the material that must cut to the surface by C-clamps. C-clamps does not allow the object to move. C-clamps are attached at the edges. You should use two C-clamps for this. When the requirement is a hole in the center of the object, you can use two sawhorses to balance the material. This technique avoids the surface damage. We should use clamps for cutting of horizontal surfaces.
4.SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER OF JIGSAW
To start the jigsaw, pull the trigger. In some jigsaw, the lock switch is also present with the trigger. In this type, we use the thumb for the locking of the trigger.
5. SPEED ADJUSTMENT
The next step is the adjustment of the speed of the jigsaw. A higher number of the dial indicated a higher speed while the lower one indicates low speed. Adjust the speed as per the need. For accurate cuts, set the dial at low speed. The low speed also set for the cutting of metals.
8.DRAW THE LINES
Before start cutting, sketch the lines on the material with the help of a straight edge or a compass. This mapping will cut accurately and avoid overcut of the material.
7.GUIDE THE JIGSAW BLADE
Set the jigsaw at the edge and start slowly to ensure proper cutting. Keep the shoe flat against the material. Do not push the tool forcefully. It may break the blade. Guide the machine and move it slowly on the map to cut the material surface. If you want to make a curved cut, slow the speed of the tool. You can use a sharp tooth blade for cutting surfaces. Curved draw on the surfaces by the compass and this line will help for the cut.
8. ADJUST THE ANGLE
At the bottom of the machine, there is a shoe present. Shoe become loose by moving it into the anti-clockwise direction. Once the shoe loses, set its angle with the angle of the surface, then tighten it. Set the shoe flat. You can adjust the angle for cuts of 45 degrees.
9.USE A DRILL
Now its time to use the drill. At each corner, you drill a hole. This allows you to cut out in the middle of the material without cutting in from the edge.
So these are the things you need to consider about jigsaws. Jigsaw is a greater tool for woodworking and other projects. I hope you like the guide about what is a jigsaw and how to use a jigsaw. Feel free to drop a comment. You can read about the guide of jigsaw tool reviews here.
